The role of the Ontario Conservation Affairs Committee (OCAC) is to:
- Identify and define priority issues surrounding Ontario wildlife management and where applicable, contribute relevant information to decision making processes at both the governmental and auxiliary levels with respect to other organizations that have an influence in wildlife and species management.
- Provide scientific, technical, and ethical background information on conservation issues that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the OCTWS, CSTWS, and TWS organizations.
- Offer feedback to the CSTWS on wildlife management and conservation issues of particular importance to CSTWS, such that they can communicate with the parent Society to undertake its mandate sensitive to the needs of the Canadian membership.
- Members with a potential conflict of interest (e.g., employment by a body who is the subject of a particular OCTWS comment/submission) can abstain from contributing to and/or voting on a particular submission.

DFO call for input on their Framework for Aquatic Species at Risk Conservation - 2023
The OCTWS Conservation Affairs Committee would like to invite members to assist us in preparing a response to Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s (DFO) call for input on the development of their Framework for Aquatic Species at Risk Conservation. In a nutshell, the Framework will serve as a guide to identify opportunities where multi-species approaches, instead of the more common single-species approaches, may better support the recovery and protection of aquatic species at risk. If you would like to help draft a response, please review and complete all or part of the questionnaire provided by DFO. Background and supporting information can be found at:https://www.talkfishhabitat.ca/framework-for-aquatic-species-at-risk-conservation. As you’re completing the questionnaire, please make sure to include any references.
